Full marks for safety, cleanliness & comfort
This was my first stay in a hotel since the Coronavirus outbreak and I was hugely impressed by the measures taken by Camelot Beach to protect guests. On arrival you are met outside and have your temperature and travel history checked before you are allowed into the lobby. You walk through a disinfecting mat to clean your shoes and your bags are sprayed. On arrival at your room only the guest is allowed inside - once the room has been cleaned and disinfected it is sealed off until occupied. I checked my room thoroughly and it was spotless. The same cleanliness was apparent in the restaurant. Floor, tables and chairs were clean and shiny. You order your food individually and it is brought to your table (it’s hard to maintain hygiene at a buffet). I felt totally safe within the confines of the hotel which, by the way, has 2 pools and a beautiful garden area. It would be quite feasible for British holidaymakers to fly to Bandaranaike airport (only 20 minutes from Camelot), spend 5 - 10 days sunbathing and relaxing at the hotel and return home - effectively enjoying an “air bridge” holiday to a low-risk destination (Sri Lanka has only had a couple of thousand virus cases). That could be the way long haul travel will develop in the new normal. Needless to say you would be welcomed with open arms since the Sri Lankans are desperate to get tourism up and running again. Camelot has remained open while many others have temporarily closed and it deserves to pick up a bigger share of bookings. It’s a nice property with friendly staff, good food and comfortable facilities.
